Spore Traps Installed at China–Vietnam Border Ports for Monitoring Invasive Species

From March 30 to April 3, 2026, Professor Xiaoping Hu led a research team to Honghe Prefecture in Yunnan Province to conduct field investigations at key locations along the China–Vietnam border, including the Jingshuihe Port, Hekou Port, the Yuanyang Hani Rice Terraces, and rice production bases in Kaiyuan City. In collaboration with the Honghe Prefecture Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the team carried out research on the monitoring and management of invasive alien species.

At the Hekou border port, where cross-border trade between local residents of China and Vietnam is particularly active, goods are often transported manually using large suitcases into Vietnam. To strengthen early warning capacity for invasive organisms, the team installed spore traps at key border sites, aiming to monitor airborne pathogens and enhance biosecurity surveillance along the border region.
