Recently, Frantiesk Marec, the Vice President of the International Congress of Entomology, the Vice Chairman of the Czech Academy of Sciences Biological Center, and the Director of the Institute of Entomology, visited our college.
Dr. Frantisek Marec delivered an academic report on "Development of genetic sexing strains for SIT applications and the study of sex determination in the codling moth" for the teachers and students of our college. Dr. Marec detailed the sex determination, chromosome evolution, establishment of genetic strains, and application of sterile insect technique in lepidopteran pests.
During this visit, Dr. Marec visited the research facilities in our university, and went to the field to take a look of agricultural planting and field pest occurrence and control in Shaanxi Province. He then taught "Advanced Integrated Pest Management" course for Ph.D students and had in-depth discussions with Professor Chen Maohua from the College of Plant Protection, on pest sex determination, aphid sex transformation, and pest control research. Both parties hope to further carry out relevant collaborative research.
