The 2024 Annual Symposium on Plant Protection Successfully Held

To facilitate academic exchanges and cooperation in plant protection science, elevate the level of disciplinary research and technological innovation, and propel the high-quality development of the discipline, the 2024 Annual Symposium on Plant Protection, jointly organized by the College of Plant Protection and the State Key laboratory for Crop Stress Resistance and High-Efficiency Production, was successfully held on January 5th. Over 120 faculty members and students from our university participated in the meeting.

The opening ceremony was presided over by Dean of the College of Plant Protection, Prof. Guo Jun. Prof. Vice President of NWAFU, Wei Gehong, and Academician Kang Zhensheng attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. Prof. Wei introduced the university's disciplinary development and significant technological innovation achievements in 2024, and gave full affirmation to the College of Plant Protection's achievements in major research projects approved in 2024, high-level papers published, and scientific and technological awards and teaching awards received. He emphasized that 2025 is the final year of building plant protection as a "first-class discipline," and it is necessary to continuously enhance the discipline's strength and level, strengthen technological innovation and the ability to serve national strategies, and promote the high-quality development of plant protection science. Academician Kang Zhensheng pointed out the need to continuously promote organized scientific research, comprehensively and systematically plan according to the needs of disciplinary development, and continuously improve in areas such as industry-education integration, interdisciplinary research, achievement transformation, and international cooperation. He hoped that the participating experts would freely express their opinions, discuss the frontiers of the discipline and new directions for development, and jointly promote the vigorous development of China's plant protection cause.Prof. Dou Daolong from Nanjing Agricultural University, Prof. Luan Junbo from Shenyang Agricultural University, and Prof. Wu Jian from Guizhou University, were invited to this event to deliver lecture reports titled "Function and Mechanism of Membrane Receptor Kinases in Phytophthora," "Molecular Mechanisms of Symbiotic Bacteria Regulating the Reproduction of Whiteflies and Their Parasitoid Wasps," and "Research on the Development of Antiviral Agents for Plants,"respectively.Multiple professors, Liu Huiquan, Jing Xiangfeng, Liu Jiyuan, Xu Gong, Zhao Lei, Chen Xi'en from the College of Plant Protection, and Associate Professor Guo Jia delivered academic reports titled "From Fungi to Eukaryotes: Thoughts on the Origin and Adaptability of RNA Editing Phenomena," "New Progress in Sterol Nutrient Metabolism of Lepidopteran Insects," "Pesticide Resistance Inhibitors Targeting Glutathione S-Transferase," "Research on the Discovery of New Pesticide Molecules Based on the Synthesis of Natural Products," "Mechanism of BYDV Inhibiting Wheat Immunity to Promote Virus Infection and Aphid Transmission," "Gene Manipulation and Genetic Control of Spodoptera Frugiperda," and "Research on the Regulation of Wheat Immunity by Important Effector Proteins of Puccinia Striiformis," respectively, focusing on the disaster mechanisms of major crop pests and diseases and the research and application of new green prevention and control technologies.



Experts Making Academic Reports


The content of the reports at this event covered the research directions of the 3 second-level disciplines under plant protection: plant pathology, entomology, and pesticide science, fully demonstrating the development level and technological innovation capabilities of the plant protection discipline. The successful holding of this academic annual meeting has built an academic exchange platform for scientific research cooperation and collaborative innovation for experts and scholars in the field of plant protection, laid a solid foundation for the high-quality and connotative development of the plant protection discipline, and contributed to promoting the green, healthy, and sustainable development of China's agriculture.
