The 3rd National Plant Protection Competition for College Students was Held at NWAFU

On October 14th 2023, organized by the National Alliance of Teaching Innovation in Plant Protection, the Chinese Society of Plant Pathology, the Beijing Entomological Society, and the Shaanxi Society of Plant Pathology, and hosted by Northwest A&F University, the 3rd National Plant Protection Competition for College Students was successfully held.



With the theme "Science and Technology Empowering Plant Protection Development, Talent Driving Agricultural Innovation," the competition attracted 44 teams from universities and colleges such as Zhejiang University, China Agricultural University, and Nanjing Agricultural University, marking a historic high in terms of scale and participating institutions.



The competition consisted of 4 modules and 7 projects, including the Professional Skills Competition Module featuring Insect Micro-landscape Display and On-site Specimen Making, Plant Disease and Pest Identification (Basic Knowledge + Image Recognition), Plant Pathology Laboratory Operations and Pathogen Structure Drawing, and Insect Dissection and Insect Structure Drawing, as well as the Innovative Entrepreneurship Project Display module, Undergraduate Academic Exchange Reports module, and Young Faculties' Academic Forum module. This event aimed to comprehensively assess the knowledge and practical skills of college students majoring in Plant Protection. The competition awarded team prizes, individual project awards, and outstanding organization awards.

Chair of the Judging Committee, Wu Xuehong, expressed that the competition reviewed the true talents and capabilities of students majoring in Plant Protection nationwide, helping to clarify the direction and goals of future directions in student training, enhancing exchange and learning, broadening horizons, establishing cooperative relationships, and promoting the rational flow of talent.

Prof. Chen Yulin, Vice President of NWAFU, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. Prof. Kang Zhensheng, Director of the National Administry Committee on Plant Production Majors in Higher Education under the Ministry of Education, encouraged students to cultivate a love for agriculture, refine solid capabilities, and take on the mission of agricultural revitalization. Prof. Wu Xuehong from China Agricultural University, Chair of the National Alliance of Teaching Innovation in Plant Protection, delivered a speech on behalf of the organizing committee. Wang Xin, a student from China Agricultural University, took an oath on behalf of the participating students; Prof. Zhong Guohua, Dean of the College of Plant Protection at South China Agricultural University, took an oath on behalf of all judges. Prof. Pan Hongyu from Jilin University, Vice Director of the National Administry Committee on Plant Production Majors in Higher Education under the Ministry of Education, Li Lun, Secretary-General of the National Administry Committee on Plant Production Majors in Higher Education under the Ministry of Education, attended the opening ceremony.
